IQS Tech Factory organizes IQS Tech Fest: The Festival of Industrial Startups

The all-day event will take place in the Antiga Fàbrica Estrella Damm in Barcelona and will host more than 50 startups

IQS Tech Factory, the center of industrial entrepreneurship of IQS, organizes IQS Tech Fest, The Festival of Industrial Startups, on January 25th 2018 at the Antiga Fàbrica Estrella Damm in Barcelona.

On December 14, IQS Tech Factory, organized IQS Tech Fair, the first Industrial Startups Fair of the country. The event, that welcomed more than 400 attendees, presented the technologies of the 18 startups whom it supports. The startups had an exhibition area each and the fair featured an inaugural speech by Carme Artigas, CEO and founder of Synergic Partners.

In the year 2018, the entrepreneurship center goes one step further in promoting industrial innovation and transforms the fair into IQS Tech Fest- a festival dedicated to industrial entrepreneurship.

The all-day event will host more than 800 attendees, bringing together the technologies of 50 industrial startups in the trade show. The startups come from the following sectors: Advanced Industrial Techniques; Automation and Robotics; Life Sciences: New Materials; Energy and Environment; Wearables; Food and Sport. The event will also include inspiring talks from some of the reference actors in the ecosystem; a closed Investment Forum for interested investors and a final party, in which attendees and entrepreneurs can connect.

IQS Tech Fest will be a new opportunity to learn about startup technologies – both startups who receive support from IQS Tech Factory as well as many others that are part of the industrial ecosystem- connect with potential partners and learn about the latest market trends.

Four keynote speakers who are changing the world

In parallel, the all day long festival will offer a program of inspiring talks (in Spanish and English), led by international speakers.

Stephen Dunne, CEO of Neuroelectrics-a company specializing in the development of technological devices to stimulate and treat diseases related to the brain- will be the inaugural speech of the day.

Another interesting talk will be led by Lynette Kucsma, CEO and founder of Natural Machines- the creators of Foodini, the first 3D printer capable of printing and cooking all kinds of food, making its way into the world of restoration.

Alfons Cornella, CEO of Infonomia and one of the leaders in innovation in Spain, will also offer a workshop to analyse the future and predict the most impactful technological transformations.

The first festival of industrial startups will be closed with the final presentation by Neil Harbisson, the first cyborg in the world legally recognized by the British Government. Harbisson is an artist and cyborg who was born with achromatopsia, a congenital disease, that only allows to see in black and white. The attendees will discover with him his story after designing the antenna that is currently implanted in the brain and that allows him to hear the colors.

The day will end with a final party to give all attendees an opportunity to network and find future synergies.

Stephen Dunne: The brain math

The brain is one of the most complex organs of the human body and has become one of the most studied by the scientific and medical world. Advances in their knowledge increase year after year and the birth of companies such as Neuroelectrics is a clear example of this. Stephen Dunne, director of the company specialized in the development of technological devices to stimulate and treat diseases related to the brain, will be one of the outstanding speakers of the IQS Tech Fest. Dunne will share with us what the revolutionary advances of his technology for brain health means

Lynette Kucsma, from 3D printing to the plate

3D printing is revolutionizing the industry and has now come to transform haute cuisine with technologies like Lynette Kucsma, co-founder of Natural Machines. With her we will meet Foodini, the first 3D printer capable of printing and cooking all kinds of food, which is making its way into the world of restoration.

Alfons Cornella: The future that is coming

Technology is advancing by leaps and bounds and there are big changes that will revolutionize society and the economy. In the session Beyond the Edge: the future that is coming, Alfons Cornella, CEO at Infonomia, will invite us to become the Jules Verne of the 21st century, uniting imagination with the deep knowledge of available technology. Together with Cornella we will analyze and imagine the transformations that are expected as a result of the technologies that are making their way.

Neil Harbisson, the sound of colors

In 2004, the British Government recognized the first cyborg in the world for the first time legally. He is Neil Harbisson, an artist and cyborg who was born with achromatopsia, a congenital disease, that only allows to see in black and white. Harbisson arrives at IQS Tech Fest to break all the schemes and change our way of understanding the relationship of technology with humanity. With him we will discover his history and how he hears colors after designing and implementing an antenna in his brain.
